Then I read the news (or maybe I saw the headline somewhere) about a landslide of an orphanage home.
It was very sad, sad to read the news of a landslide at an orphanage in Hulu Langat. I have not seen any images yet. But some friends have been posting video recordings from Youtubes, which I do not dare to watch :-(
These are the timeline of the events that happened following the landslide.
> 2.15pm A total of 49 students and teachers waited at the Madrasah Al- Takwa, Jalan Felcra Semungkus, 14th mile Hulu Langat, for the arrival of a Finas delegation for a scheduled lunch and meet-the-orphans session.
> 2.30pm Two landslides occur simultaneously as a result of overnight rain, partially burying the orphanage along with 25 people.
> 4.30pm Firemen, villagers and rescue workers retrieve the first body. The injured are rushed to the Kajang Hospital as rain begins to pour.
> 5pm A Fire and Rescue Department team retrieves another body, a student at the orphanage.
> 5.30pm Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim tweets that he has deployed a rescue team from the Selangor Humanitarian Aid Foundation, Amal Foundation and Amal Brigade.
> 6.10pm Another body is retrieved. In total, nine victims have been pulled out of the debris by search-and-rescue teams from the Fire and Rescue and Civil Defence departments and police.
According to Selangor police chief Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah, three victims aged between 11 and 14 died at the scene and their remains were sent to Ampang Hospital for autopsy.
> Six injured victims, aged between 11 and 17, are sent to Kajang Hospital for treatment.
> 7.18pm Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil directs the Social Welfare Department and the Skuad Sayang (Caring Squad) to provide immediate assistance to the orphans and relatives of the victims.
> 7.30pm Police tell bystanders to leave the area.
> 7.40pm Two more bodies are pulled out and taken away in two ambulances.
> 8.10pm Police cordon off the area as the crowd grows bigger.
> 9pm Fearing more landslides, police issued another stern warning to the public to make them move away from the site.
> 9.15pm Police tell reporters to move away from the scene for their safety.
> 10.30pm First boy pulled out alive.
> 10.45pm OCPD Kajang ACP Abdul Rashid Wahab said 10 were dead and nine others were injured and sent to hospital.
> 2am 13 found dead and three are still missing.
Landslide's timeline extracted from The Star Online.
The name of the orphanage is Madrasah Al-Takwa, and it is located at Jalan Felcra Semungkus, 14th mile Hulu Langat.
Though I hope no other Malaysians would be showing that they care by visiting the site. Just read the line that mentioned that the police had to give warnings more than a couple of times to onlookers for them to go away from the location. Please keep in mind that your presence there could make it harder for the saving team (is this right? I feel that something is wrong with the word).
Let us all pray for the safety and fast recovery of the victims and for the ones that passed away, let their souls rest in peace.
Al-Fatihah.
