Wow - this has been made a movie! I remember reading this book when I was still in high school. Actually I was not so much a fan of Malay novels, because I don´t like to be "jiwang" and using all these Malay words, describing words of love, listening to swinging rock and ballads* and such.
Anyway, two or three years back I have heard that some film makers wanted to adapt the novel to a movie, and I thought, okay, probably it would not be so interesting. In my mind, I imagined the movies in the 90´s by Ziana Zain, Erra Fazira and Awie (dang, I really can´t remember the titles of those movies).. full of melodic ballads, walking in the rain while crying and chasing for your significant other who is angry/crying/just saw you cheating with another man/woman, ugh.. saya tidak boleh tahan..! :-D
Most of the books that I read while growing up were books by Enid Blyton, and then Harry Boys, some other detective books featuring a girl, those twins from Sweet Valley High, hehe.. and many more. I can´t believe that I haven´t been reading actively like I used to. Okay, when I was younger, I didn´t have so much money to go out, staying at home was best and I was more the telephone type of girl. I kept in touch with my girlfriends on the phone.
Whoops!
OK back to the topic!
So how did I get to know about the book?
At first, there were a couple of friends who brought the book to school and words spread out about the book, and then more students were seen reading the book. And soon you start to hear everyone talking about it. And I didn´t want to feel left out (besides one of my friends wanted me to read it, guaranteeing that it would be the best love story that I would ever read, so she lent me hers), so I read the book.
It was quite fine, I think.
It was an enjoyable read, for sure. But not for me to read more like it. I can read fictional books, biographies, non-fictionals and other types of books in Bahasa Malaysia but not a romance book, in that way.
However, I would like to recommend my readers to watch this movie "Lagenda Budak Setan". The preview at least seems very interesting. And to imagine that something like this could have happened to you as well. Very complicated love story.
I think I have to find a way to be able to watch it from Sweden. I will try to check out some movie sites later that offer payable view.
Go on and watch the trailer first! :-)
*I hope my readers will not take any offence. It was just a phase that I went through while growing up and I have always appreciated my mother language, in fact what I wanted to avoid was just the negative cliché of Malay. I am proud of Bahasa Malaysia, proud of my nationality, proud of being a Malay.
