The Midsummer Festival

Every year on the 25th or 26th of June, the Swedish people celebrate a very interesting event. The Swedish Midsummer; back in the old days, today has the longest sun ever during their short summer days. Usually the sun would be visible for up to 10 hours on this day.

I like it during Midsummer. Everybody is merry, everybody is happy. You can feel it in the air that it is a celebration.

My mother-in-law usually prepare a lot of food on this day. Sometimes the whole neighborhood will be here, most of the time we have a big feast just within our family.

After the big feast, the tradition of drinking shnapps, or shots are consumed and then everybody became very loud and funny.

The long Saturday in June

It´s quite rare for the days to be as hot as today.

And it is rare for the weekends to be as long as this weekend.

On Thursday it was a "red day" because it was the day when Jesus was called up to heaven. And on Monday it will be a "red day" again because of Sweden´s national day. "Red day" is what public holiday is called in Sweden. So we took the chance to go up on the hill for barbeque with some new friends. Which was really nice because we get to grill and I always love grilling, and we get to grill under the shadow. Plus, plus, plus points!

However most of the people came late, like two hours after the time they promised to show up. And some didn´t even show up. After some time I just lost my mood because I get hungry and my headache started to make small appearances. And the one-time grill kit took so long to burn it was such a pain to wait. (Oh my god, I am such a complainer, am I not? Since when have I turned to become to such a person?) Anyway..

Then a couple turned up, then a man and then three more people showed up. So we were quite a small crowd there, grilling hotdogs and sausages. I didn´t take any good photos, even though I wanted to snap photos.

After few hours sitting on the grass, talking, eating and drinking, we were back home to change and then we decided to go to Andra Långgatan because it is Andra Långdagen or something like this they call it. There are DJs playing on the street, with performances of musical instruments, and other things which I am not too clear about. Andra Långgatan is located near Jarntorget or The Iron Square, if translated to English (but no, don´t ever mention it when you are finding the road here in Sweden because most people only recognize the road in Swedish). It is the street where you can find pubs for cheap beer (as mentioned by many students), a couple of strip clubs, Netto (a home grocery chain store), and few Thai places.

Although when we arrived there, the main attractions were probably already over and there were just a lot of scraps on the street, and a lot of drunk people. So we skipped the road and walked to Jarntorget to meet up with few more people. From Serbia, India and a girl from the north of Sweden, Dalarna (like the horse, you know?). They were quite cool. Hubby showed all of us around to the old city wall at Kungshöjd and then we walked to Haga before going back to Jarntorget and ended up in a pub inside Hagas bio.

The day ended a little bit after midnight when we get our ride home (thank you guys, if you are reading this!) and it was not even dark yet (because soon the sun will rise again).

Gratisprov Eyeliner

TORELU eyeliner 12ml

We Are Engaged!

I could not believe in my head that we are verbally engaged! (I think it would be weird to be physically engaged? LOL Like we are attached to each other and busy doing something else, maybe something naughty.. ;-) Naughty...)

Yes, we are engaged!

Engaged to be married!

Never in my years (not going to expose my age here, haha) of living I thought that I would be getting married!

Not when I am living abroad, not when I am not working, not when I don´t have a career, not when I am broke and penniless.

But I don´t care about all those now! (Of course I will get them back).

This just shows that love does comes above most of the difficult things in life.

Alhamdulillah.. praise be to Allah, I am so happy!

Ok, now.. where do I get the money to buy the ring from..? :-P

Happy New Year 2011!!

Wishing all of my readers for more upcoming years of prosperity, happiness and good health, in love, life and after-life, with God¨s will.

Do you think 2011 is going to be a new and more exciting year for you?

I believe that the year 2011 can be the year where all of your prayers are answered. I would like to think so, at least.

For some reason, after a year of being jobless, I feel more rejuvenated and refreshed now. My mind tends to think that 2010 was the year when I took the time to rethink and relax. And wake up again in 2011.

Okay!

When the snow is here, you know Christmas is coming!

This time of the year is *almost* the happiest time of the year for me.

Well, at least in the beginning when the snow began falling.

What a wonderful feeling!

It will also be my first Christmas with Sayang and his family!

There is a lot of Mariah Carey's song playing; on the radio, in the mall (always at the mall to see and get the mood of Christmas), on the television.

Sommar och jordgubbar

It was a really great time for anyone to be in Sweden - during the summer. Even the Swedes admit this themselves. Everyone becomes the cheerful, friendly human beings, so much unlike the norms we find on the streets in the winter.

We celebrated Midsommar, and it's really a great, great celebration! I shall post you some photos, but it's not the usual photos as I will post some that is quite unrelated to my introduction :-P

Nearby of Siv's home there is some strawberries growing wild. I'm not sure how they grew there, but it's just right on the side of her walking paths.

There is also the photo of a couple of souvenirs our friend bought for us from Paris. Foie Gras and Olives Au Chocolat (olive flavoured chocolate) which was very, very nice!
